Saturday

Not many glamorous or exciting projects took place this time. But there was a lot of hard, dirty grunt work that was necessary.

Mike M., Mike B, and Glen A. re-installed the lead truck on the M4 and removed all of the cribbing. They then removed the control/gauge console so that Glen can restore it.

The rest of the crew cut up and removed the remnants of the inspection pit that were dumped outside of the Engine House.  What was salvageable for use in future retaining walls, was saved. The rest was hauled to the dump pile by Jason & Noah on the tractor.

Angela, Andrew, Everett and Dave finished the last of the pit covers to keep the pit area safe.

David Hearn brought his mower and mowed lots of grass helping out the museum staff.

The museum provided lunch. Thanks SFHM!

Everett, Angela, Andrew, & Jason surveyed Track #3 into the Engine House. The original Track #3 was removed when the Saw Mill switched to trucks in the 1950's. We're putting it back to allow for more flexibility, storage, and simultaneous projects.

Sunday

Using the relatively cool morning air, we started removing debris from near the location of the new Track #3 into the Engine House. Our attempts to move the hulk of an old tractor proved futile. Heavier equipment will needed.  But, we did clear a good amount of refuse from the area. We also finished the removal of the Inspection Pit timbers save for a single timber that Everett cut up Monday morning.

During the clean-up for Track #3, we found the frog from the original Track #3 switch! It will, of course, be re-used for the new switch.

For lunch Jason grilled up some hotdogs. After chow, we cleaned up the area behind #400's tender, between the Main Line and the north leg of the Wye. Several large and useable timbers were hauled to the pad for storage. The rest was hauled to the burn pile and dumped.

By 5:00 PM, everyone had left except Everett and Mike B.

Monday

Mike M, David H. and Everett finished the clean up of the pit material.  They also attempted to start the Insley but we're not able to do so.

Casey Brown informed them that the internet was out at the office.  Investigation found that a lightning strike had knocked out all power at the office and fried all of the surge protectors, phones and wireless router.  Power was restored to the office and it is believed that the computers are undamaged.

Mike and David worked on preparations for the October Steam Up (garden scale / Gauge 1).

Good News: None of our volunteers from the area hit by Ida have been flooded nor sustained major damages!

This is the Planer Mill as seen from the Finished Lumber Shed during a rain shower Friday evening.

The new security light on the Planer Mill is shining through the trees and rain to create a neat effect.

Glen and Mike make final preparations to re-installed M4's lead truck.

Regrettably, there are no photos of the installation. The photographer was running the tractor and missed it.

Everett surveys Track #3

Track #3 will run from where Everett is standing to a new switch where Angela & Andrew are standing in the distance.

The switch for Track #3 will diverge from Track #2 here.

Jacking up an old tractor in the hopes of being able to move it with the tractor

Mike B. places the jack...

...and Andrew lifts it up.

Unfortunately, it was too heavy for the tractor. So, we'll use heavier equipment in the future to move it.

Grilling hotdogs for lunch.

"Come and get it!"

Wrapping up Sunday afternoon, Everett & Jason moved old timbers to the pad for storage or the burn pile, depending on their condition.

This spot near the back of #400's tender is now clean.
