Team:

Kevin P.
Mike M.
Gerald W. (staff)
Doug (SFHM Staff)

Accomplishments:

- Flooring replaced with historically accurate tongue and groove floor boards around Corlis steam engine in Planer Mill powerhouse
- New door to new walkway into Planer Mill powerhouse installed

Kevin and I finished installing a new floor in the Planer Mill powerhouse. What started out as what appeared to be replacement of a couple of rotted boards ended up being a complete demolition and replacement of the entire structure. After removing the rotted boards, it was discovered that all the floor joist as well as the 6x8 sill was rotted as well. After tearing out all of the existing structure, a new 8x8 sill, as well as new floor joist were installed to support the new flooring.

After we finished installing the floor, we assisted Doug and Gerald with installing the new door on the power house. These were major accomplishments on this project. The new flooring that we installed is the exact same type tongue and groove flooring as the rotted floor that we removed. Therefore, it retains the original look as well as being very solid. Not only does it look great, it is now safe for museum traffic.

It is amazing how much more can be accomplished with another set of helping hands. Kevin also assisted me with feeding the cats, which I think he really enjoyed. The cats took to him immediately!
